22% of visitors to Spain in September were British
6 November, 2024Low-cost airlines were responsible for 61% of international tourist arrivals to Spain in September, again dominating Spain’s international air market, compared to the remaining 39% corresponding to traditional airlines, with a slightly lower increase of +9.4%, according to Turespaña’s monthly report.
As regards air flows, 55.7% of total passengers came from the European Union(+9.9%), while travellers arriving from the rest of the world or third countries accounted for the remaining 44.3% (+10.5%). Between January and September, Spain received 81.7 million international passengers (+11.7%), representing 8.6 million additional international arrivals, of which 5.6 million corresponded to low-cost airlines, representing 65% of this increase.
The UK accounted for 22.6% of total international arrivals to Spain in September, with a year-on-year increase of +6.2%, which favoured all the main autonomous communities, although the Balearic and Canary Islands accounted for the highest percentage of arrivals from the British market, with 47.5% of the total. 80.5% of British passengers arrived in Spain on a low-cost airline.
