Seaplane flights between Mallorca and Ibiza get increasingly closer
20 November, 2024The seaplane connection between two of the Balearic Islands, Mallorca and Ibiza, is getting increasingly closer. In early November, flight tests were carried out by the Isla Air Express company between the two ports, from port to port, with the aim of testing the landing and take-off conditions in both harbours.
It should be noted that these tests mark an important step in a project that has taken six years and which has recently obtained permits from the Balearic Islands Port Authority and the Spanish Aviation Safety Agency (AESA). As well as establishing a regular connection between Ibiza and Palma, the airline aims to expand its activity in the future to Menorca and Formentera, as well as to the mainland.
In all cases, progress will depend on the results of these tests and the economic and operational viability of the routes. So far, the company has invested approximately €7 million to acquire the seaplanes, establish port infrastructures and meet regulatory requirements.
