The Spanish city with 4 World Heritage sites
11 December, 2024Spain has a total of 50 sites that form part of the World Heritage list, a well-known collection of monuments, places and even traditions that indisputably constitute the country’s essence. They are distributed throughout the territory, inside and outside the peninsula. Spain has the third highest number of properties on the Unesco lists.
One city in particular stands out for having more World Heritage Sites than any other in the world. It is Córdoba, the iconic jewel of the south where Christian and Muslim influences converge, and one of the oldest cities in Europe, dating back to the 2nd century BC.
It has an extensive cultural and material legacy. But as far as the Unesco list is concerned, the Andalusian city of Córdoba actually has four sites, ranging from its own historic centre, one of the first five Spanish monuments to be listed, to Medina Azahara, its most recent addition in 2018.
